Drawing Centre Diepenheim has taken the initiative to bring contemporary drawing to the attention of a larger audience. From March to June 2016 20 artists’ initiatives in The Netherlands present exhibitions focussing on drawing. On 16 and 17 April 2016 DRAWING FRONT WEEKEND will take place in Diepenheim, a drawing event for those who love contemporary drawing.

Drawing Centre Diepenheim opts for a group exhibition of Belgian and Dutch artists for whom drawing is the most important and sometimes the only artistic discipline in their art practice. In Drawing Centre Diepenheim more than talented Dutch artists are shown who are relatively undiscovered or newly graduated. Artists from Belgium who have not yet been presented in The Netherlands often, exhibit in the Kunstvereniging.

Concerning the Belgian participants, curators Nanette Kraaikamp and Arno Kramer have chosen artists who are often already famous nationally and internationally, but who do not belong to the category ‘world famous’ yet. The artists chosen show the high quality of drawing in Belgium. As regards content, diversity is sought first of all. With some large works, drawing installations completed on the spot and a few series of meticulously and skilfully drawn figurative works, it promises to be a spectacular presentation.

‘Solidified Mountain – The Slowness of Mass’

Supported by the Mondriaan Fund, Gam Bodenhausen worked in Werkplaats Diepenheim (Workplace for (Performing) Arts) as artist in residence for drawing for a few months. She made new work, inspired by the Diepenheim area. The phenomenon ‘mass’ is a central theme in her large monumental drawings. Her work will be on view in the project space of Kunstvereniging Diepenheim from 19 March onwards.
